Worldwide Association for ME/CFS Awareness and Research

Volunteering for WAMCARE

The Worldwide Association for ME/CFS Awareness and Research has two types of volunteers: occasional and committed.

An occasional volunteer has usually offered to help with a specific area, such as graphics, website expertise, or "tweeting" on Twitter for the Cause. Occasional volunteers are very much appreciated and can do a lot of good! We recognize that a lot of people who would like to help us are also suffering from ME/CFS and other illnesses, or spend a lot of time supporting someone who has ME/CFS. The occasional volunteer option lets you help the ME/CFS Cause without over-committing yourself and putting your or someone else's health in jeopardy.  To see what you can do right now to help ME/CFS, Click Here!

A committed volunteer is someone who wants to get more involved with WAMCARE and the ME/CFS Cause.  They sign the agreement below, and commit to providing volunteer services for at least six months out of every year. This last condition makes the agreement flexible for those who are ill and who may not be able to provide consecutive service.  A committed volunteer is a member of WAMCARE, and thus earns the right and responsibility to vote on policies and issues that pertain to the organization, including electing members of the Board of Directors. To become a Committed Volunteer, email us at volunteer@wamcare.org.  To find out how to help right now, click here!

The Committed Volunteer Contract

This contract must be signed by all member volunteers of WAMCARE, including the Board of Directors. It exists to protect your rights, and the rights of everyone in the organization.

2. To participate in volunteer activities that engage your interests, talents and capabilities.
3. To have a comfortable arena to express your ideas, opinions, feelings and needs.
4. To be respected and supported in every way possible by your organization, BOD, and fellow volunteers.
5. To receive public recognition for your contributions, and the gratitude of all persons within WAMCARE.
6. To cease your volunteer activities at any time.
7. To make your physical and mental health your first priority, and to have your needs heard and accommodated by the organization.
8. To vote on issues presented to the membership of WAMCARE.

As a Committed Volunteer you have the responsibility:
1. To remember our People First Policy: the physical and mental health of our members and volunteers takes priority over any organizational concern. You are encouraged to monitor your health, be diligent in your self-care and to express your needs freely.
2. To abide by the mandates of WAMCARE.
3. To represent WAMCARE with integrity and dignity in all of your activities for the organization.
4. To be honest and sincere in your work and communications.
5. To abide by the Golden Rule: treat fellow volunteers, members, and the public as you would have them treat you, with respect, attention and support.
6. To see yourself as an integral and needed member of a Team.
7. To provide your volunteer co-workers with accurate information regarding the status and needs of your project(s).
8. To offer your services freely, of your own accord, with no expectation of payment or reward other than due appreciation, recognition, and the gratitude of your co-volunteers and the WAMCARE Board.
