WAMCARE Mandates
The Worldwide Association for ME/CFS Awareness and Research (WAMCARE):
1. Is a grassroots organization to be overseen and guided by a Board of Directors. The WAMCARE organization is a group of people, not a name or individual, and thus can only be disbanded or dissolved by a majority vote of the voting members.
2. Shall not deviate from our main purposes: to promote the message that ME/CFS is a serious biological disease, to raise funds for awareness projects and biomedical research, and to support persons with ME/CFS, their families and communities.
3. Has a People First policy. WAMCARE places the individual person's physical and emotional health above organizational concerns. This commitment takes the following forms:
a)No member or volunteer shall be asked or pressured to work beyond their capability or desire. We encourage everyone to be committed to their own self-care, to ask for help, and to express their needs and concerns freely and openly.
b)The feelings, needs, opinions and ideas of every member and volunteer will be recognized, listened to, and discussed in a fair, open-minded and caring manner.
c) The Board of Directors is dedicated to supporting, hearing and helping each other, our members and volunteers in every way possible.
4. Adheres to the World Health Organization's definition of ME/CFS as a neurological disorder (WHO Publication ICD 10 - "Diseases of the Nervous System" G93), and believes the Canadian Criteria for ME/CFS is the most complete currently available diagnostic protocol.
5. Agrees with the W.H.O. and other organizations that ME and CFS are the very same disorder, and thus will be referred to as ME/CFS or CFS/ME in all official WAMCARE correspondence.
6. Will incorporate as a non-profit organization in the state of Nevada, U.S.A., and eventually as an Internationally Incorporated Registered Non-Profit Charity.
7. Will remain independent of outside influence, including but not restricted to political, financial, medical companies, groups or lobbies, and individuals with agendas that differ from WAMCARE's mission.
8. Is officially represented by the WAMCARE Board of Directors, and anyone authorized by the Board of Directors to communicate to the public. The BOD and any appointed spokesperson abide by the WAMCARE Communications Guidelines
9. Maintains financial accountability to its membership and the general public by making financial records available upon request to interested and reputable parties. All voting members will receive yearly financial statements.
10. Supports other reputable organizations, websites, blogs and persons that promote the biomedical approach to ME/CFS. WAMCARE will co-operate with other ME/CFS organizations to achieve mutual purposes and goals.
